Vertigo resurrects songs written in ancient cuneiform text, buried for 3800 years beneath the earth, and brings them back to life to reveal an absolutely unique and breathtaking soundscape.
3800 years ago, Hourrite scribes wrote a series of texts and musical scores in cuneiform script on clay tablets. Discovered in 1966 in Ugarit (Syria), these “Hourrite Songs” became the oldest known traces of musical writing.
Vertigo brings together six musicians to engage in a dialogue with this music and with this language. Resurrecting these mostly unpublished songs, immersing ourselves in the etchings on these clay tablets, bringing out a singular musical language, a direct transposition of this cuneiform writing. Vertigo takes us into a wonderful ancient musical world.
